Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines has flashed upside in spurts during his five-year NFL career, but he's failed to be a consistent fantasy football producer. Hines was traded from Indianapolis to Buffalo last season and any skill-player in one of the league's top offenses will draw interest from fantasy managers.
However, the 26-year-old had a limited role on offense last season, so there's a chance he continues to be primarily a special teamer. If he does see an expanded role, he'll be on the fantasy radar.
Will Hines get more touches in Buffalo's backfield in 2023? Let's dive in.

Nyheim Hines 2022 Season Review
In seven games with the Colts, Hines rushed 18 times for 36 yards and a touchdown, adding 25 receptions for 188 yards. He was traded for Zack Moss just before the NFL's trade deadline and ultimately failed to make an offensive impact for the Bills -- rushing six times for negative three yards and catching five passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.
He was incredible in the kick return game, scoring two touchdowns on returns in the Week 18 win over the New England Patriots.
Will Nyheim Hines Have An Expanded Role In Buffalo's Backfield?
Bills running backs coach Kelly Skipper said that Hines "can function in anything we do," which is a good sign for a few more touches in his first two seasons with the Bills. The 26-year-old is mostly a pass-catching threat and has 240 catches in five NFL seasons, but it's still unlikely that Hines sees a big enough workload to make him fantasy relevant on a weekly basis with James Cook, Damien Harris, and Latavius Murray also in the picture.
His best chance for real playing time would come if Cook has to miss time this season. Cook has the pass-catching skills to cement himself as the lead third-down back, but Harris and Murray don't have the receiving chops he or Hines do.
Even then, Hines likely wouldn't be a clear fantasy starter, but more of a low-end flex dart throw. For now, he's only on the fantasy radar in the deepest of leagues.
