The New Orleans Saints haven’t had a superstar tight end since Jimmy Graham was on the team. However, the Saints do have a solid 1-2 punch.
Juwan Johnson joined the team in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He had only 10 targets as a rookie. However, the former college wide receiver turned tight end had four receiving touchdowns on only 22 targets in 2021. Johnson finished third on the team in receiving touchdowns that year.
Meanwhile, Foster Moreau was a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. The former LSU tight end spent most of his time with the Raiders backing up Darren Waller. Yet, Moreau had eight receiving touchdowns over the first three years of his career.

What Did The Saints Tight Ends Accomplish Last Year?
Last year Johnson became New Orleans’ receiving tight end and red zone weapon. The former Penn State and Oregon star had 42 receptions on 65 targets for 508 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, all career highs. More importantly, Johnson led the team in receiving touchdowns last season.
Moreau wrapped up his final year with the Raiders in 2022. The former LSU tight end wasn’t a fantasy star despite Waller missing eight games last year. He had 33 receptions on 54 targets for 420 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The two receiving touchdowns were the lowest of his career. However, the veteran tight end posted career highs in receptions, targets, and receiving yards in 2022.
Who Will Be The Top Tight End For The Saints In 2023?
Earlier this offseason, Moreau was going to sign with the Saints. Unfortunately, the veteran tight end was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and had to step away from football. Thankfully, he announced that he is in full remission and ready to play at 100% this year.
Some believe Moreau is an underrated player and should be the starting tight end in New Orleans. However, fantasy players should draft Johnson.
Moreau has started over half of the games in his career. Yet, the former LSU tight end never turned into a consistent fantasy player. He has 12 receiving touchdowns in his career on 91 receptions.
Meanwhile, Johnson has 11 career receiving touchdowns on only 59 receptions. More importantly, the former undrafted free agent finished third in receiving touchdowns last year among tight ends.
