Veteran running back Kareem Hunt was the 86th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Hunt had a productive college career, totaling 782 rushing attempts for 4,945 yards and 44 touchdowns in his four years at Toledo. He also caught 73 passes for 555 receiving yards and a touchdown in college.
Despite being a third-round draft pick, Hunt had an excellent rookie season. He had 272 rushing attempts for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. More importantly, the former Toledo star led the NFL in rushing yards as a rookie.
After the Chiefs released Hunt in 2018, the veteran running back has spent the past four years with the Cleveland Browns, averaging 4.2 yards per rushing attempt.

Is Kareem Hunt A Free Agent?
Last year the former Toledo star had the worst year of his career. Hunt averaged only 3.8 yards per rushing attempt, a career low. Furthermore, the veteran had only three rushing touchdowns, the lowest total of his career when he played at least nine games.
Therefore, it’s no surprise the Browns didn’t re-sign the former star running back when his contract expired this offseason. More importantly, Hunt remains a free agent.
Which Teams Would Be A Good Fit For Kareem Hunt?
While he is a free agent, Hunt isn't lacking confidence. The veteran running back has spoken to several teams about joining them for the 2023 season.
Reportedly the Washington Commanders have had internal conversations about Hunt. The veteran running back was in Kansas City at the same new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was with the team. However, the Commanders have invested multiple draft picks at the running back position over the past few years.
The best landing spot for Hunt is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rachaad White had some solid moments as a rookie but didn’t show enough potential to warrant the unquestioned starting role. Hunt could challenge the second-year running back for the starting job and would be, at worst, a solid No. 2 running back for the Buccaneers.
Multiple teams could use Hunt as a veteran backup. However, there isn’t a landing spot for the former Toledo star that will make him a fantasy star this year. At best, the veteran could become a mid-level handcuff.
