Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Richardson was the third quarterback selected this year. However, he has significant fantasy upside.
The Colts have struggled with the quarterback position since Andrew Luck abruptly retired right before the 2019 season. Indianapolis has had four different Week 1 starting quarterbacks since Luck retired.
Jacoby Brissett was the starter in 2019 before Philip Rivers took over in 2020. The Colts traded for Carson Wentz in 2021 and Matt Ryan in 2022. Unfortunately, all four quarterbacks failed in Indianapolis, leading to the team spending a top-five pick on Richardson.

Will Anthony Richardson Be A Top-12 Fantasy Quarterback In 2023?
While everyone should be excited about Richardson in the NFL, the hype has gotten out of control before the rookie has taken his first NFL snap.
However, the former Gator has significant fantasy upside. While rookie quarterbacks tend to struggle early in their careers, Richardson’s rushing ability could be the difference maker for fantasy players.
Head coach Shane Steichen spent the past two years as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played a critical role in making Jalen Hurts a fantasy superstar.
In his first year as the starter, Hurts was the QB9, averaging 20.8 fantasy points per game. He had 139 rushing attempts for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns that year. While Richardson won’t put up that same production, the former Gator could end the season in the low-end QB1 range if he starts 15 or more games.
