New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was a disappointing "real life" and fantasy quarterback in 2022, especially since he posted a solid season in his 2021 rookie campaign.
Needless to say, his fantasy ceiling is limited by a lack of rushing upside, but he could become a value in two-QB or superflex leagues as a QB2 for fantasy managers. The Patriots added a few offensive weapons and brought in a familiar face to run its offense, so the young gun-slinger could be in line for a bounce-back season.
What is Jones' 2023 fantasy outlook and can he be trusted in your QB2 spot in superflex leagues? Let's dive in.

Mac Jones 2022 Season Review
In 2022, Jones posted a 6-8 record as a starter, completing 288 of his 442 passing attempts (65.2 percent) for 2,997 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He regressed in every statistical passing category from his rookie season, but a lot of the struggles are attributed to the change from Josh McDaniels to Matt Patricia as offensive coordinator.
The Alabama product finished as the QB23 in total fantasy points, five spots behind where he finished as a rookie. He posted three top-15 fantasy finishes over his last three games but was otherwise unspectacular and often finished outside the top 20 QBs.
Mac Jones 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
The Patriots added JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike Gesicki this offseason, who should be upgrades from Jakobi Meyers and Jonnu Smith. Additionally, the team fired Matt Patricia and hired former Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien to run the show on offense.
While these are positive signs for an improved New England offense in 2023, we can't get too ahead of ourselves on Jones' fantasy outlook. The Pats should still be one of the most run-heavy teams in the NFL, and though the pass-catchers are upgraded, it's still not a tremendous group.
Unless sophomore Tyquan Thornton emerges as a bonafide stud, it's hard to be too optimistic about the Pats' passing offense. Jones is a fine QB2 in superflex formats, but he's currently being selected around the QB27 spot, so he's perceived as one of the weakest QB2 options available. For real upside, it's probably a good idea to take someone earlier in the draft like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, or Derek Carr.
