Veteran running back Melvin Gordon has been productive throughout his eight-year NFL career, but his 2022 season was far from stellar. The 30-year-0ld running back was released by the Denver Broncos after 10 games, then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs -- where he did not log a snap.
However, he's now a free agent and could find himself in a committee backfield in 2023. The running back market is down and multiple aging RBs are waiting to find a new home, but Gordon should end up on a team at some point.
How did Gordon play in 2022 and what teams could be interested in signing him this offseason as training camp approaches? Let's dive in.

Melvin Gordon 2022 Season Review
Gordon entered the 2022 season expecting to share time with Javonte Williams. Williams would suffer a torn ACL in Week 4, but Gordon didn't take advantage of a promising role afterward. In 10 games, he rushed 90 times for 318 yards (3.5 YPC) and two touchdowns and caught 25 passes for 223 yards. After fumbling four times and failing to rush efficiently, the Broncos released him and turned to Latavius Murray and Chase Edmonds to handle its backfield duties.
Gordon would go on to win a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs, but he did not play a single snap for Andy Reid.
Needless to say, it was by far Gordon's worst season since his 2015 rookie campaign.
Which Teams Would be the Best Fit For Gordon
While Gordon's best days are likely behind him, there's a chance he could be a part of a two or three back committee moving forward. On the flip side, he could be a mere depth piece and "handcuff" RB to a workhorse back.
Some teams potentially lacking quality RB depth include the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, and Los Angeles Rams. Gordon would be a good fit in any of those backfields.
However, the possibilities are endless since Gordon isn't viewed as a starting running back at this point in his career.
