Joey Votto Gets The Day Off Monday At Baltimore
1 year agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is not in the lineup Monday night against left-handed starter Cole Irvin and the Baltimore Orioles. The presumed rest day comes one week after Votto made his 2023 debut, which was delayed due to a lengthy shoulder injury. The 2010 MVP started six consecutive games in the sixth spot of the order, racking up five hits, three walks, three homers, and six strikeouts in that short span of time. It makes sense that Votto's day off would coincide with a lefty on the mound, but it should be noted that he did return last Monday against a southpaw in Austin Gomber and then started again on Saturday against another in Jared Shuster. There doesn't seem to be a platoon in place for Votto at the moment, but we'll see if he can keep up these power numbers to maintain an everyday role for a young and talented Cincinnati squad. For now, fantasy managers can comfortably start the veteran at their corner infield or utility position whenever he's in the lineup.
