Shane McClanahan's Removal Was Precautionary
1 year agoUpdating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that he removed left-hander Shane McClanahan (back) from his start early on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals as a precaution due to back tightness. "I'm pretty optimistic that Shane McClanahan is fine," Cash said. McClanahan's back had been an issue before his start on Thursday, but they are hoping that he'll be able to make his next scheduled start. It sounds like the 26-year-old southpaw has avoided a serious injury, but he's still not a lock to make his next start. He's been one of the best pitchers in baseball to this point, leading the league in wins (11) and ERA (2.23) while also posting a 1.12 WHIP, 35 walks and 100 K's in 93 innings over 16 starts.
