Miami Marlins third baseman Jean Segura (hamstring) participated in on-field running on Thursday, according to MLB.com. The veteran injured his hamstring last Wednesday before going on the shelf on Saturday. Segura is expected to return in early July, with the hope that it isn't a lingering issue. It's been an abysmal first year in Miami for the 33-year-old, who was slashing .190/.259/.234 with one home run, 16 runs, 11 RBI, and five stolen bases over 60 games. If he wasn't already, fantasy managers should drop Segura everywhere.--Spencer Seguin

The Cleveland Guardians acquired infielder Jean Segura and infield prospect Kahlil Watson from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for first baseman Josh Bell, according to sources. Segura's stay in Cleveland didn't last long, though, as The Athletic's Zack Meisel reported the Guardians are releasing Segura. He's owed the rest of his salary this year, $8.5 million for next year and a $2 million buyout for 2025. The 33-year-old has declined rapidly and was hitting just .219/.277/.279 with three homers, 21 RBI, six steals and 25 runs scored in 301 at-bats with the Fish this year. Watson, on the other hand, is a 20-year-old shortstop that was ranked by MLB Pipeline as Miami's No. 11 prospect. He has plenty of tools as a middle infielder, but he has plenty of developing still to do and is hitting just .210 (43-for-205) with nine homers, 24 RBI, 14 steals and 28 runs scored in 60 games for the Florida Complex League and High-A Beloit.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Miami Marlins reinstated outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (toe) and infielder Jean Segura (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Monday and optioned infielders Garrett Hampson and Jacob Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville in corresponding moves. The team also claimed right-hander Eli Villalobos off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates and assigned him to Double-A Pensacola. Chisholm has been out since mid-May due to turf toe that will require offseason surgery. Neither Chisholm nor Segura were producing much for fantasy managers before their injuries, but Chisholm has the much higher fantasy ceiling, as long he continues to run on the base paths. Chisholm will return to a .229/.291/.403 slash line with seven homers and 14 steals, while Segura returns to a weak .190/.259/.234 slash line with a homer and five stolen bases.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins infielder Jean Segura (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Segura initially hurt his hamstring during Wednesday's contest against the Mariners before missing Friday's opener against the Nationals. The 33-year-old has been an unmitigated disaster for the Marlins, after signing a two-year, $17 million with Miami in the offseason. He's slashing a paltry .190/.259/.234 with one home run, 11 RBI, and five stolen bases over 205 at-bats. Perhaps the time off will do him some good. Marlins top prospect Jacob Amaya has been recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. He's a name to keep an eye on.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins infielder Jean Segura went 1-for-4 with an RBI and his third stolen base of the 2023 season in Thursday's 5-3 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals. Segura was the Marlins' leadoff man for the first time this year on Thursday, and he took advantage of it. Despite a weak .276 on-base percentage through 39 games in his first season in Miami, Segura has reached base safely now in his last six games. But overall he's been a fantasy disappointment, hitting .211 (28-for-133) with three doubles, a triple, no home runs, five RBI and 11 runs scored in 146 trips to the plate. The 33-year-old will need to continue getting on base to stick in the leadoff spot, but as long as he stays there, he'll have slightly more DFS appeal.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
