The Cleveland Browns have had one of the top running back units over the past several years. Leading that unit has been Nick Chubb. The veteran running back had 1,525 rushing yards last season, the third-most in the NFL.
Furthermore, the 1,525 rushing yards were a career-high for Chubb. More importantly, the former Georgia star had 12 rushing touchdowns last year, matching his career high.
However, the Browns lack proven depth behind the superstar running back. Kareem Hunt has spent the past four years in Cleveland but is currently a free agent.

Will The Browns Add Another RB To The Roster?
The Browns are in the market for a veteran running back. However, it won’t be a big-name player such as Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, or Leonard Fournette. Instead, the team will add someone to be the No. 3 running back behind Chubb and Jerome Ford.
Last year Ford had only eight rushing attempts for 12 yards. The rookie was fourth on the depth chart behind Chubb, Hunt, and D’Ernest Johnson. However, the former Cincinnati star averaged 24.1 yards per kick return.
Meanwhile, Ford had a productive college career. He had 1,319 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns in his final year at Cincinnati. Furthermore, he averaged over six yards per rushing attempt in 2020 and 2021.
Which Free Agent RBs Would Be A Good Fit?
While the Browns will add a running back before the start of the season, fantasy players and fans shouldn’t expect the team to re-sign Hunt. Reportedly Cleveland will only bring back the veteran if he agrees to a minimum contract.
The Browns don’t have a significant need for a running back. Chubb is one of the top running backs in the NFL. Meanwhile, the team has high expectations for Ford. However, they should improve their options for the No. 3 running back role.
Since Cleveland won’t add a big-name running back, fantasy players and fans should expect the team to sign someone off the radar. The Browns will likely target a veteran such as Dontrell Hilliard, Kenyan Drake, or Darrell Henderson Jr.
Regardless of which running back Cleveland adds, they will have zero fantasy impact. Chubb remains the unquestioned featured running back, while has Ford become one of the top handcuffs in fantasy football.
