Ty Montgomery Competing For Backup Role
1 year agoNew England Patriots running back Ty Montgomery, who emerged as a replacement for receiving back James White in the team's backfield last summer, will be competing for a depth role behind Rhamondre Stevenson with Pierre Strong Jr. and Kevin Harris this summer. Montgomery missed the final 16 games of his first season in New England due to injuries, but he's a candidate to spell Stevenson in the passing game in 2023. "I think he has a great chance to the be the third-down back and take some of the load off Rhamondre [Stevenson], so [Rhamondre] can be fresh when he we really need him on first and second down carrying the ball as the featured guy," said RBs coach Ivan Fears. The 30-year-old has versatility that Bill Belichick likes, but Montgomery probably won't see enough touches to be worth drafting, outside of deep PPR setups.
