Veteran quarterback Carson Wentz was the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Wentz spent the first five years of his career with the Eagles, finishing third in the 2017 MVP voting despite tearing his ACL.
Unfortunately, injuries and other factors led to Wentz’s struggles in Philadelphia. However, he became the first quarterback to throw for over 4,000 yards despite not having a wide receiver with over 500 receiving yards in 2019.
Meanwhile, the Eagles traded Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts after the 2020 season. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out in Indianapolis. The Colts then traded the veteran quarterback to the Washington Commanders last offseason.

Will The Raiders Sign Carson Wentz?
While some had high hopes for Wentz in Washington, the Commanders released the former North Dakota State star after one year with the team. The veteran remains available on the open market. However, the Las Vegas Raiders could sign Wentz over the next few weeks.
The Raiders released Derek Carr earlier this offseason and replaced him with Jimmy Garoppolo. Unfortunately, the veteran suffered a foot injury with the San Francisco 49ers last season. Reportedly, the foot injury isn’t 100% healed, and the team is worried about the quarterback’s availability.
While everyone wants to see Tom Brady come out of retirement and start for Las Vegas, the future Hall of Famer says he isn’t playing this season. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Wentz is a potential option for the Raiders.
Is Carson Wentz A Good Fit For The Raiders?
Despite playing for three teams over the past three years, Wentz is a starting-caliber quarterback at his best moments. Last year he had 313 passing yards and four touchdowns in Washington’s 28-22 Week 1 comeback victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Unfortunately, Wentz also repeatedly makes awful decisions and mistakes. He had nine interceptions last year despite playing only eight games. Furthermore, the veteran struggled with holding onto the ball, totaling 26 sacks, including five games with three or more.
However, the Raiders don’t have many available options. Teddy Bridgewater, Joe Flacco, and Nick Foles are also available on the free agent market. Yet, none of them offer the potential upside of Wentz.
