Yonny Chirinos Called Up To Start Thursday
Yonny Chirinos from Triple-A Durham on Thursday and optioned pitcher Cooper Criswell to the minors in a corresponding move. Chirinos will make the start on Thursday in the series finale against the Minnesota Twins, pushing Tyler Glasnow back to Friday against the Texas Rangers. Chirinos has been very solid for the Rays this year, going 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA (4.67 FIP), 0.97 WHIP, 11 walks and 11 strikeouts in 29 innings over seven appearances (one start). However, the 29-year-old Venezuelan hurler has been a bit lucky and allowed three runs while walking four in 5 1/3 innings in his lone start on May 5 against the New York Yankees. Chirinos will be a poor streaming option that probably won't provide much length.
