Randy Vasquez Likely to Start Wednesday
2 years agoNew York Yankees rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez is in the team's clubhouse on Tuesday and has a good chance to start on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox in place of injured left-hander Nestor Cortes (shoulder), who is expected to land on the injured list. In his major-league debut against the San Diego Padres on May 26, Vasquez was hit with a loss when he allowed two runs on four hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out six in 4 2/3 innings of work. The club's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has gone 1-6 with a 5.13 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 26 walks and 55 strikeouts in 10 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2023. The matchup will be a better one for Vasquez in his second MLB start, and his strikeout upside could make him worth streaming consideration in deeper leagues.
