1 year agoThe consensus among sportsbooks heading into today's Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Series race at Gateway is that Denny Hamlin is the favorite to win. This is due to the fact that Hamlin's #11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was the fastest in practice in nearly every statistical category. Hamlin had the fastest 10-, 15-, 20-, and 25-lap average during practice on Saturday morning and went out and qualified 3rd soon after that. Gateway is a 1.25-mile flat track, and flat tracks are where Hamlin really excels. He has won 14 combined races on flat tracks in his career, at New Hampshire, Phoenix, Richmond, and Martinsville.--Jordan McAbee
