1 year agoThis is the opportunity that Corey LaJoie has been wanting ever since he started racing in the NASCAR Cup Series full time: a chance to run in top tier equipment. Thanks to Chase Elliott's suspension from his actions at Charlotte last weekend, LaJoie is in the #9 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports at Gateway this week. However, practice and qualifying weren't all rainbows and unicorns for this team. LaJoie struggled to find comfort in the car during practice and ended up just 30th-fastest on the speed chart, and then in qualifying later Saturday morning, he also wound up 30th. With that being said, he has one of the best cars in the field to work with this weekend, so there's definitely a possibility that he moves up as he gets more comfortable with the racecar on race day.--Jordan McAbee
