The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering a rebuilding process. While the team had made the playoffs the past three years and won Super Bowl LV, things changed this offseason.
Tom Brady retired a few months ago, leaving the Buccaneers with a significant hole at the quarterback position. Tampa Bay signed Baker Mayfield in free agency to pair with former second-round pick Kyle Trask.
However, which quarterback will replace Brady under center this year?

What Did The Buccaneers Quarterbacks Accomplish Last Year?
Trask was the 64th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. However, he has barely seen the field in his career. Last year the former Florida Gator finally saw some regular-season action. Yet, he only completed three of his nine pass attempts for 23 yards.
Meanwhile, Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He looked like a franchise quarterback early in his career. However, the veteran has bounced around the NFL over the past year. Mayfield got traded from the Browns to the Carolina Panthers. Then the Panthers released the veteran partway through the year. He was claimed a day later by the Los Angeles Rams.
However, Mayfield had some productive moments with the team. He completed 63.6% of his pass attempts for 850 yards and four touchdowns in five games with Los Angeles. Furthermore, the veteran came off the bench and led the Rams on a game-winning drive in the Week 14 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Who Will Be The Top Quarterback For The Buccaneers In 2023?
Many believe Mayfield will be Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback this year, given his experience and limited success in the NFL. However, the team will give both quarterbacks to earn the starting role. Mayfield and Trask have split first-team reps so far this offseason.
While Mayfield gives the Buccaneers a better chance to win this season, fantasy players should expect Trask to start more games.
Tampa Bay has to think about the future. Is the franchise better off trying to sneak into the playoffs, only to lose in the first round or potentially land the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft? Thankfully, Trask gives the team a better chance at earning the top pick while also allowing them to see what the third-year quarterback can do as the starter.
