Randy Vasquez To Start For Yankees On Friday
2 years agoNew York Yankees rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez is with the team on Thursday and said the plan is for him to make his first major-league start on Friday in the Bronx against the visiting San Diego Padres. The team's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has gone 1-5 with a 4.85 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 23 walks and 50 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings over nine starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre so far in 2023. The 24-year-old has a nasty curveball and gets plenty of swings and misses, but we wouldn't advise fantasy managers to roll with him as a streamer, even though the Padres will likely be without star third baseman Manny Machado (hand) again on Friday. Control issues have raised concerns about whether Vasquez can remain in a starting role long-term in the big leagues.
