Chase Elliott Leads 26 Laps In All Star Heat Race, But Was He Really That Strong?
2 years agoThe short track package with the NextGen car has left a lot to be desired for NASCAR fans, and when it comes to the racing itself, track position is the most important factor when it comes to which cars are strongest. That was the case during Saturday night's Heat Races as well, especially for Chase Elliott. In his Heat Race, Chase led 26 of the 60 laps, but ultimately finished 7th in the end--five positions worse than he started--once he lost the track position from the point. In practice this weekend, Elliott didn't show much speed, so a his mid-pack starting spot (13th) for the All Star Race seems to be par for the course for NASCAR's most popular driver.
