Anthony Volpe Hitting Seventh Against Tampa
2 years agoNew York Yankees rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe has been moved down to seventh in the batting order for Friday's showdown against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-handed opener Trevor Kelley. Volpe had been serving as the team's leadoff hitter since April 15, but a drop in production has earned him a drop down the Yankees' batting order. The 22-year-old is slumping to the tune of a 2-for-27 mark in his last six games, dropping his season slash line to .199/.292/.338 in his first 39 major-league contests. He also has three doubles, two triples, four home runs, 13 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 15 runs scored in 154 plate appearances. Fantasy managers may want to bench Volpe until he starts to turn it around. Second baseman Gleyber Torres is serving as the designated hitter and is in the leadoff spot on Friday.
