NFL Draft Recap: Dallas Cowboys: 2023 NFL Draft Outlook

Dak Prescott - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

How did the Dallas Cowboys do in the 2023 NFL Draft? Which rookies will have a major fantasy impact in 2023?

The Dallas Cowboys had a few positions of need left heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. They have addressed their concerns by bringing Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore into the fold.

However, they were able to pick up some intriguing prospects with their eight selections. They evenly chose between offensive and defensive players. The Cowboys also provide one of the draft’s most heartfelt moments.

A few household names might have left the team, but they are hoping their new players can help sustain their contender status.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Panic Pick For The Cowboys?

The Cowboys were hoping to land a tight end in the first round after Dalton Schultz signed with the Houston Texans. However, the Buffalo Bills used an ace up their sleeve by trading one spot ahead of the Cowboys.

They used that pick for Dalton Kincaid, a player Dallas highly coveted. Instead, Dallas added Mazi Smith to an already talented defense. He will be an asset to the Cowboys’ run defense, especially after finishing 22nd in that category last season.

But in a division where teams have talented offenses, adding prospects on that side of the ball is a must. The Cowboys will sulk with “what ifs” if Kincaid pans out in Buffalo.

Dad “Hires” His Son

Dallas Cowboys scout Chris Vaughn informed his son, Deuce, that he would be a member of the Dallas Cowboys. It was such an emotional time, and everyone in the Cowboys’ war room cheered them on. However, they are not drafting Deuce Vaughn because of his dad. Instead, he does have the skill to fortify the team’s backfield.

The 2022 Unanimous All-American had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for the Wildcats before declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. But while he could also help as a pass-catching running back, he will compete for minutes with Tony Pollard, Malik Davis, and Ronald Jones.

Dallas Cowboys 2023 NFL Draft grade

The Dallas Cowboys earned a B for their draft class. Smith and Schoonmaker are the only prospects who have a remote chance of becoming starters. It remains to be seen if the rest of the class can become difference-makers. If they do, the Cowboys will be tough to beat.
