Gavin Williams Strikes Out 10
2 years agoCleveland Guardians pitching prospect Gavin Williams struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits in a start for Triple-A Columbus. The 23-year-old threw a fastball that averaged 98 mph with 17 whiffs on 58 pitches thrown. He supplemented his four-seamer with a curveball that had a 100% whiff rate on three swings and a slider that generated two whiffs. After putting up a 0.63 ERA with a 37.7% strikeout rate in three Double-A starts early this season, the organization promoted him to Triple-A. He has a 0.87 ERA and a 28.9% K rate through two Triple-A starts. Gavin Williams is poised to enter the Guardians rotation later this season, so he is a stash option in deeper leagues.
