Will The Titans Add A Wide Receiver Through Free Agency? Which Wide Receivers Would Be A Good Fit?

The Tennessee Titans ruled the AFC South over the past few years. They won the division title in 2020 and 2021. Furthermore, the Titans earned the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC Playoffs two years ago.

However, everything changed last season. It started in the offseason when Tennessee released Julio Jones after one year with the team. Unfortunately, his one year on the roster cost the Titans a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and a fourth-round selection this year. Then, the team traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 NFL Draft for the 18th and 101st overall picks.

While Tennessee used the 18th overall pick on Treylon Burks, the former Arkansas wide receiver didn’t have an ideal rookie season. He ended the year with 33 receptions on 54 targets for 444 receiving yards and one touchdown. Furthermore, Burks missed six games because of injuries.

Will The Titans Add A Wide Receiver Through Free Agency?

The Titans have made several odd decisions this offseason. They released Robert Woods after trading for him last year. Furthermore, Tennessee waited until the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft to select a wide receiver. While Colton Dowell had some impressive moments at UT Martin, the rookie receiver can’t be counted on this season.

Furthermore, the only veteran addition the Titans made this offseason was signing Chris Moore to a one-year deal. Therefore, the team must add someone of consequence in free agency before training camp.

Which Wide Receivers Would Be A Good Fit?

Tennessee’s starting wide receivers include a pair of second-year players and career role player Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. While Burks and Kyle Philips have potential, the duo combined for only 41 receptions on 67 targets for 522 receiving yards and one touchdown as rookies. Therefore, it’s no surprise that many believe the Titans have the worst wide receiver core in the NFL.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many appealing free agent wide receivers left on the market. However, two potential targets are Jarvis Landry and T.Y. Hilton.

Last year Landry was with the New Orleans Saints but struggled with injuries. Yet, the veteran receiver had 25 receptions on 39 targets for 272 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Hilton spent last year with the Dallas Cowboys, totaling seven receptions on 10 targets for 121 receiving yards in only three games. Both veterans have struggled with injuries over the past few years. However, both can provide the Titans with veteran experience at the wide receiver position.
