Lions Begin Discussing Extension With Jared Goff
2 years agoThe Detroit Lions are in the early stages of talking about a contract extension for quarterback Jared Goff, according to general manager Brad Holmes. "We've had internal dialogue there, and we've had dialogue with his agent. And we're in a good place right now," Holmes said. Just a couple weeks ago, Goff said he hadn't had any conversations with the team, so it appears some progress has been made. The 28-year-old is currently signed through the 2024 season and will cost the Lions $31 million against the salary cap in 2023 and $32 million next year. Detroit also drafted Hendon Hooker in the third round last week, but it's unclear how that will impact Goff's future with the team. Goff was solid in his first year in his second year with the Lions and has plenty of weapons on offense, but he should be viewed as a high-end QB2, at best, in fantasy.
