The 2023 NFL Draft is in the rearview mirror. There were 259 players drafted over the three-day event, including 102 over the first two days.
One of those players was Penn State tight end Brenton Strange. The former Nittany Lion was a third-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He got drafted with the 61st overall pick as the sixth tight end off the board.
However, what can Jaguar fans and fantasy football players expect from Strange in the NFL?

What Did Brenton Strange Accomplish At Penn State?
The former Penn State tight end only played one game as a freshman, catching one pass for four yards. However, Strange took a redshirt year in 2019 after only playing in one contest.
He had a solid 2020 season, totaling 17 receptions for 164 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Then the former Nittany Lion had 20 receptions for 225 receiving yards and three touchdowns the following year. However, Strange had a larger role last season after the team lost superstar wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the NFL.
Strange had 32 receptions for 362 receiving yards and five touchdowns last season, all career highs. Furthermore, the veteran tight end led the Nittany Lions with five receiving touchdowns despite finishing third in receptions.
After a modest college career, will Strange become a difference-maker in the NFL?
Is Brenton Strange A Good Fit For The Jaguars?
The former Penn State Nittany Lions is excited to join the NFL and is ready to get the work.
However, how much of a role will Strange have as a rookie? The Jaguars placed the franchise tag on Evan Engram earlier this offseason. He is coming off a productive 2022 season, totaling 73 receptions on 98 targets for 766 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Jacksonville wants to get a long-term deal done with the veteran tight end. However, does Strange’s arrival changes things for the team? The answer is likely no. Engram played a critical role in Trevor Lawrence’s development last season, finishing third on the team with 33 first-down receptions.
Therefore, fantasy players shouldn’t expect much from the former Penn State tight end as a rookie. If Engram doesn’t sign a long-term contract with the Jaguars, Strange could have fantasy value in 2024. However, fantasy players shouldn’t get their hopes up.
