Elly De La Cruz Launches First Triple-A Home Run
2 years agoCincinnati Reds top prospect Elly De La Cruz smacked his first long ball at the Triple-A level, a 107.3 miles-per-hour moonshot to dead center. A hamstring injury forced the 21-year-old to miss the first couple of weeks of the 2023 campaign, and he carries a mediocre .189/.231/.432 slash line through eight games. Nonetheless, it's a small sample size, and the resurgence of De La Cruz's 60-grade power stroke is an encouraging sign. The five-tool prospect posted a .945 OPS with 28 home runs and 47 stolen bases across 120 games between two minor-league levels last season. De La Cruz should already be stashed in deeper fantasy formats and expects to debut in the majors in 2023, barring setbacks.
