Andy Dalton Expected To Back Up Bryce Young
2 years agoThe Carolina Panthers signed quarterback Andy Dalton in the offseason, but the 35-year-old veteran is expected to be a backup and to mentor first overall pick Bryce Young in his rookie season in 2023. The Panthers didn't give up four high draft picks and No. 1 wide receiver D.J. Moore to move up to No. 1 overall to let Young sit on the bench and watch for a year. Most scouts and coaches viewed Young as the most NFL-ready signal-caller in this year's draft, so it makes sense for them to throw him into the fire immediately, with Dalton as an insurance policy. Dalton has played in 166 NFL games (162 starts) in his 12-year career, so he has plenty of experience. In 14 starts for the Saints in 2022, he threw for 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
