Commanders Not Exercising Chase Young's Fifth-Year Option
2 years agoThe Washington Commanders will not exercise defensive end Chase Young's fifth-year option, according to sources. Young, the second overall pick in the 2020 draft, lived up to the hype in his rookie season by being named the Defensive Rookie of the Year, but he's played in just 12 games since due to injuries, including just three last year for the Commanders. The good news is that the 24-year-old looks to be back to full health heading into the 2023 campaign, but he'll need to rebound on the field if he wants to stay in D.C. past this year. If Young wows again in 2023, the Commanders could use the franchise tag on him next offseason. Fantasy managers in IDP formats may want to take a wait-and-see approach with Young this fall.
