Cardinals Option Jordan Walker Wednesday
2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals optioned outfield prospect Jordan Walker to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday and recalled infielder Taylor Motter from Memphis in a corresponding move. A recent cold spell at the plate has earned Walker a demotion to the minors for the time being. The 20-year-old began his major-league career with a 12-game hitting streak early on, but he's fallen on hard times recently and has gone 5-for-26 (.192) with no home runs, three RBI and nine strikeouts in his last eight games for the Cardinals to drop his season average to .274 (20-for-73) with two homers and 11 RBI in 20 games played. Walker entered the 2023 season as St. Louis' top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, so we suspect he'll be back in the bigs sooner than later. Those in dynasty/keeper and NL-only leagues should hang onto him.
