Javier Baez Departs Following Hit By Pitch Wednesday
2 years agoDetroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez left Wednesday afternoon's contest with the Brewers after being hit on the hand by a pitch from right-hander Freddy Peralta. He was replaced in the lineup by Jonathan Schoop while Zach McKinstry moved from second base to shortstop in Baez's stead. It's brutal timing for Baez to potentially miss time with an injury as he rode a 10-game hit streak into Wednesday's contest. The 30-year-old hit .378 with four extra-base hits and seven RBI over the streak although he remains in search of his first homer of the season. He does have a pair of steals and most noticeably has cut his strikeout rate to just 17.6%, a figure miles below his career 28.4% mark.
