Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta is one of the top prospects at the position in a talented 2023 tight end class. The 22-year-old could be the next Iowa tight end to be selected in the first round, joining T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant from a few years ago.
LaPorta has a solid production profile and tested well at the 2023 NFL combine, so his draft stock has risen over the past few months.
Let's dive into LaPorta's prospect profile and some potential landing spots.

Sam LaPorta Career Review
During his first two collegiate seasons, LaPorta caught 42 passes for 459 yards and one touchdown. He would smash those stats over his final two seasons at Iowa, catching 111 passes for 1,327 yards and four touchdowns. He was a solid volume receiver but didn't find the end zone much in a lifeless Hawkeyes offense.
LaPorta had an excellent NFL Combine, running a 4.59 forty-yard dash at 245 pounds, posting well above average vertical and broad jumps, and showing impressive agility in the shuttle and 3-cone drills.
According to MockDraftDataBase.com, he is projected to be a second-round pick. Before February's combine, he was mocked as low as a fourth or fifth-round selection.
Which NFL Team Could Pick LaPorta?
While LaPorta could sneak into the first round, he'll likely be a mid-second-round selection. TE-needy teams with picks in the middle of the second round include the Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, and Cincinnati Bengals.
Some of those destinations would be favorable fantasy football landing spots, but others could mean he won't be expected to produce much in his rookie season. Ultimately, the options are endless as any team could look to trade up or down to acquire LaPorta, but that group of teams in the middle of round two makes sense.
