Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams had a limited rookie season. The former Alabama star wide receiver missed 11 games last year recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in his final college game.

Williams struggled to make an impact in the NFL. He caught only one of his nine targets last year for 41 receiving yards and a touchdown. Despite the limited rookie season, fantasy players had high expectations for Williams in 2023.

Unfortunately, those expectations will have to wait after the second-year player got suspended last week.

How Long Is Jameson Williams Suspended?

On Friday, the NFL announced that five players were suspended for violating the NFL gambling policy. Three players have been suspended for at least the 2023 season, while two others will miss the first six games of the year. Thankfully, Williams will only miss six games this season.

Williams only received a six-game suspension because he was betting on non-football games at the team facility. Players are forbidden from betting on anything NFL related. However, they can bet on other sporting events as long as it’s not at the team’s facility and other specific locations.

What Does This Mean For Fantasy Players?

Unfortunately, fantasy players must wait until the Lions’ seventh game of the year to see Williams on the field. That means fantasy players have no reason to draft the second-year player in redraft leagues. Meanwhile, how does the suspension impact Williams’ dynasty value?

The suspension is less than ideal but isn’t a significant problem in the long run. However, the fact that Williams will only play in six of the first 23 career games is more concerning. Furthermore, his struggles last year aren’t ideal. Yet, fantasy players should trade for the young wide receiver if they can acquire him for a second-round rookie draft pick or less.

Meanwhile, the lone winner from this news is Amon-Ra St. Brown. The former USC star was the WR8 last season, averaging 13.4 fantasy points per game. He will see even more targets to start next year with Williams on the sidelines. Fantasy players should draft Amon-Ra St. Brown as a low-end WR1 in redraft leagues this summer.
