Tight ends like Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, George Kittle, and Darren Waller have rivaled the top wideouts as some of the best pass-catching weapons in the league, so the position has never been more important in the NFL and fantasy football.

Top 2023 Draft TE Prospects
Notre Dame's Michael Mayer, Utah's Dalton Kincaid, Georgia's Darnell Washington, Iowa's Sam LaPorta, and Oregon State's Luke Musgrave are the consensus top-five tights ends in this year's class, according to MockDraftDataBase.com.
Mayer is viewed as the best all-around tight end and is just 21 years old, Kincaid fits the archetype of a volume receiver at tight end, Washington is massive with off-the-charts size-adjusted athleticism, LaPorta carries the Iowa tight end pedigree, and Musgrave is an athletic multisport athlete who was on track for a monster final season before getting banged up.
All the tight ends bring different skill sets to the table, but all in all, this class is viewed as one of the strongest collective tight end units in the last few cycles.
How Many Tight Ends Will Be Taken in the First Round?
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the betting odds for two or more tight ends selected in the first round are (-360). Mayer and Kincaid seem like certain round-one picks at this point in the week, but it's unclear which other tight end could creep into the first round.
Scouts are reportedly blown away by the measurables of the 6'6", 264-pound Washington, and he is currently projected to be the third-highest drafted tight end per MockDraftDataBase.com. That said, it only takes one general manager to fall in love with either LaPorta or Musgrave's profile for them to be pushed into the first round, so as of now, it's a tough call.
In all likelihood, we will see at least two and as many as four tight ends hear their names called on Thursday night.
