Matt Carpenter Has Monster Game Sunday
2 years agoSan Diego Padres designated hitter Matt Carpenter had himself a day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and a sacrifice fly. He finished with a run scored and five RBI. This was a much-needed breakout for Carpenter, as he had recently been relegated to an at-bat or two per game, usually coming late as a pinch-hitter. Even with the big performance, Carpenter likely won't see a ton of playing time in a stacked Padres lineup. He will fill in occasionally against righties though, and should see his fair share of pinch-hit appearances. It isn't ever a bad idea to keep an eye on Carpenter in case he gets hot, as we know from last season that his hot streaks lead to him gaining fantasy relevance.
