University of Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs likely would've been a lock to go in the first round of the NFL draft a few years ago but given the devaluation of the position as a whole, he could be on the outside looking in.
Gibbs has flashed explosiveness and pass-catching upside since his freshman season at Georgia Tech and is one of the most exciting young running back prospects for real NFL purposes and fantasy football. At 199 pounds, he may never have a workhorse role, but as long as he lands somewhere that utilizes him heavily in the passing game, he could be a high-end PPR fantasy asset.
How did Gibbs play during his career and will he be a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft? Let's dive in.

Jahmyr Gibbs Career Review
As a freshman at Georgia Tech in 2020 and 2021, Gibbs rushed 232 times for 1,206 yards and eight touchdowns. The Georgia Tech offense was one of the worst units in the ACC but he still found a way to produce efficiently on the ground. His pass-catching prowess is what made NFL scouts and apparently, Alabama staff members raise eyebrows though. Gibbs caught 60 passes for 773 yards and five receiving touchdowns during his age 18 and 19 seasons.
Gibbs entered the transfer portal after his sophomore season and landed at Alabama to play with quarterback Bryce Young. During his lone season in Tuscaloosa, Gibbs rushed 151 times for 926 yards (6.1 YPC) and seven touchdowns and caught 44 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns.
He worked in a split backfield at Alabama, but he was the primary receiver out of the backfield, which has almost become a requirement for NFL backs.
Will Jahmyr Gibbs be a First-Round Pick?
According to MockDraftDataBase.com, which aggregates thousands of mock drafts to form a big board of prospects, Gibbs ranks as the 36th overall prospect. That said, he could very well sneak into the first round, but the majority of mock drafts have him being selected in the early part of round two.
Running back draft position can be hard to predict since we don't know which teams are moving on from taking the position in the first round altogether, but there is a chance he's taken with the last few picks of the first round. However, he's likely going to be an early round-two pick rather than a first-rounder.
