Arizona Cardinals franchise quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a torn ACL in Week 14 of the 2022 season against the New England Patriots, so his status for 2023 is unclear.
Murray has been a high-end fantasy quarterback with top-tier rushing upside when healthy, but the 25-year-old trigger-man has nine games over the last two seasons. Now, we have a new update on his status.
Is Murray healthy or injured and when can we expect him back on the field? Let's dive into his fantasy outlook for 2023.

Kyler Murray Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon won't put a timeline on quarterback Murray's (knee) return "because you're always wrong when you do that. So, whenever he's ready to play, he'll play." Gannon wants Murray to be fully ready both physically and mentally before he returns. However, the quarterback posted a video on his Instagram story over the weekend of him squatting, 13 weeks post-surgery to fix his torn ACL.
Hopefully, this is a good sign for his recovery timeline, but he won't be at the nine-month mark until late September. There's been speculation that he won't return until at least midseason.
Ultimately, it's still too early to tell, but a positive update doesn't hurt.
Kyler Murray 2023 Fantasy Outlook
Murray is currently going off the board at the QB19 spot in early FFPC fantasy drafts for 2023. He could be a steal at that draft spot if he returns anytime before Week 8, but fantasy managers will need a placeholder until he's ready to go.
There's also a chance he simply doesn't perform well next season and his rushing upside is limited, so he's far from a sure thing. That said, he's cheap to draft and has undeniable upside as a team's second quarterback bench stash.
DeAndre Hopkins is rumored to be on the trade market and it'll be surprising if he's in Arizona next season, but the Cardinals return Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Rondale Moore, Zach Ertz, Trey McBride, and James Conner in 2023. Although the Cardinals will likely be in rebuild mode under a new general manager and head coach, the team still has some solid weapons to work with.
Ultimately, it depends on the construction of the fantasy roster if Murray is worth taking the gamble on. As the season draws closer, we'll have a better idea about when he could potentially return to action in the desert.
