San Francisco Giants outfielder Matt Beaty has been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. The Giants just acquired Beaty from the Royals for cash considerations and selected his contract back on March 30. He only logged a pair of plate appearances with the big league club before getting sent back down to Triple-A. Former top-prospect Heliot Ramos has been recalled in a corresponding move.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent infielders Matt Beaty and Jermaine Palacios to minor-league deals on Monday. Both players will report to Triple-A Omaha this week. Beaty comes to Kansas City after playing in the minors with the San Francisco Giants this year. The 30-year-old left-handed-hitting first baseman played in four games for the Gigantes and went 1-for-5 with an RBI and two strikeouts. In 30 games at Triple-A Sacramento, he hit .272 (28-for-103) with six doubles, four homers, 23 RBI and 14 runs scored. Beaty will serve as organizational corner-infield depth for the Royals. In parts of five big-league seasons, he has a .249 average with 18 homers, 93 RBI and seven steals in 264 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent first baseman/outfielder Matt Beaty to a minor-league deal on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, according to a source. Beaty played in only 20 major-league games in 2022 with the San Diego Padres, going just 4-for-43 with an RBI, six runs scored and eight strikeouts. The season prior with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he hit .270/.363/.402 with a .765 OPS, seven homers, 40 RBI, 35 runs scored and two stolen bases in 120 games played. With a rebuilding Royals club, the 29-year-old left-handed hitter will give KC some flexibility at first base and in the outfield if he makes the major-league roster out of spring training.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

San Diego Padres outfielder/first baseman Matt Beaty (shoulder) has had his rehab assignment put on hold. According to Padres beat writer Kevin Acee, Beaty's shoulder is "still not quite right." Beaty is now at the team's complex in Arizona, awaiting the next move. The 29-year-old has been on the shelf since May 7. He was struggling at the plate prior to the shoulder injury, slashing just .108/.175/.189 over 17 games.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller

San Diego Padres first baseman Matt Beaty (shoulder) was held out of Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins due to a shoulder injury. He first sustained the injury during Saturday's game while diving for a ball. Following Saturday's game, Padres manager Bob Melvin discussed Beaty, stating, "They're working on him right now, but it was obviously enough to where he had to come out of the game, so that's not a great sign." Beaty has seen a good amount of playing time in May, mostly due to the absence of Wil Myers (thumb). We should know whether a stint on the injured list is coming for him soon.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
