Andrew Painter To Throw Next Week
Andrew Painter (elbow), the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, is scheduled to start throwing next week after taking a month off from throwing. The Phillies are cautiously optimistic that Painter can pitch for them later this season, but they'll surely take every precaution with the 19-year-old. Painter deserves to be stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues for his long-term upside, but he can probably be left to the waiver wire for now in single-year mixed leagues. We'll continue to keep a close eye on his progress in the coming weeks and months. The 6-foot-7 hurler has been dominant in the minors, and although he's not even 20, he was close to winning a rotation spot at the major-league level in camp.

Andrew Painter Pounds The Zone In Latest Start
Andrew Painter made his fourth start of the season on Thursday, allowing three earned runs on three hits (two HR) and no walks while striking out two over four innings of work for Single-A Clearwater. The righty threw only 42 pitches, one shy of his season-high, but 31 of them went for strikes. The team has indicated that they intend to have him debut in the majors sometime in July, so expect to see his pitch-counts begin to rise over the next several starts, and with Double-A being the highest level the 6-foot-7 hurler has achieved to this point, one would expect a move beyond Single-A soon as well for that timeline to hold. The former first-round draft pick would be a stash candidate as he gets closer to a debut, so interested managers should continue to monitor his progression, as any hiccups would cause a delay in when he arrives in the big leagues.

Andrew Painter Sharp In Second Rehab Outing
Andrew Painter was sharp in his second rehab outing with Low-A Clearwater. Painter tossed three no-hit frames. He did not allow a walk and struck out four. This was a strong improvement compared to the two runs he allowed over his first rehab outing (one 1/3 innings). During his first outing, he struck out three batters but also allowed a free pass. Painter is considered one of the top prospects in the sport. However, the former 13th overall pick has battled numerous injuries, which have limited him each season. Currently, the right-hander is healthy and is slowly increasing his workload. When Painter does not have any restrictions, he will likely report to Double-A Reading. Fantasy managers should expect the 22-year-old to have a role in he majors after the All-Star break.

Andrew Painter Strikes Out Three In Season Debut
Andrew Painter tossed 1 1/3 innings in his season debut with Low-A on Friday evening. In this brief outing, Painter allowed two hits and two runs. He served up one walk and struck out three. Painter was kept sidelined during spring training even though he was not dealing with an injury. Painter underwent Tommy John surgery in July 2023 and has not appeared in a professional game since the 2022 season. Painter was able to pitch briefly in the Arizona Fall League and performed quite well, holding a 2.30 ERA with 18 punchouts across 15 2/3 innings. The team has suggested the budding ace could play a role in the major-league bullpen during the second half of the campaign. He is a name to monitor, as the Phillies may move him up to High-A in the coming weeks.

Andrew Painter Scheduled To Make Start At Single-A On Friday
Andrew Painter is scheduled to make a start for Single-A Clearwater on Friday, April 11, according to manager Rob Thomson. The Phillies' top prospect has been on a throwing program this spring as he finishes recovery from Tommy John surgery. It will be the former first-round draft pick's first start in the minors since 2022, although he did participate in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) last year, even earning the 2024 AFL Pitcher of the Year award for his performance. Before going down with injury, the 6-foot-7 hurler owned a 1.48 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 167 strikeouts over 109 2/3 innings pitched in the minors. It's unclear how many starts he'll make at Single-A, but expect him to make a stop at Double-A and/or Triple-A before getting to the big leagues, which Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski had previously indicated would be sometime in July. As he gets closer to an MLB debut, baseball's No. 7 overall prospect could become a priority stash, so redraft managers should keep tabs on his progress. UPDATE: Painter will throw two innings or 35 pitches on Friday.
