San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had an impressive run as Kyle Shanahan's signal-caller last season as a rookie, but he suffered a major injury to his throwing elbow in the team's NFC Championship game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
This is a complicated situation since 2021 third-overall pick Trey Lance is also recovering from a broken ankle and will be in contention for the Niners' starting QB job. There are a lot of factors at play here, but first -- Purdy must get healthy to have a chance at being a fantasy football factor in 2023.
Is Purdy healthy or injured and will he be ready for training camp or Week 1 of the 2023 season? Let's dive in.

Brock Prudy Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Purdy's (elbow) rehab is reportedly "going as planned." The signal-caller had surgery on March 10 to repair a torn UCL suffered in the postseason. The plan remains for throwing to commence in three months. Of course, Purdy will still need to prove he's ready to move to that phase of his recovery effort, so it's too early to know how his injury will progress.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said it could be up to 6 or even 8 months before Purdy is fully ready to go, so again, he's still in the early stages of the process.
Brock Purdy 2023 Fantasy Outlook
According to 49ers' general managers John Lynch, Purdy is the early favorite to be the team's starting gun-slinger in 2023. We can't always take what a general manager or coach says as fact, but it's notable he went out of his way to express where Purdy stands.
However, the injury factor makes this more difficult to evaluate, as Sam Darnold or Lance may start in the early part of the season if Purdy isn't ready to go. Either way, Purdy is worth a late-round flier in superflex and two-QB fantasy drafts and he should continue to be stashed in all dynasty formats.
