The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have undergone several changes over the past few months. At the top of the list is the quarterback position after Tom Brady retired for the second time this offseason.
Tampa Bay used a second-round pick on Kyle Trask in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, the former Florida Gator has thrown only nine regular-season passes in his NFL career. Instead of handing the young quarterback the starting job, the Buccaneers signed Baker Mayfield in free agency.
After playing for the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers last season, the former No. 1 overall pick is looking to re-establish himself as a franchise-caliber quarterback. However, will he be the Buccaneers’ starter in 2023?

Is Baker Mayfield Or Kyle Trask The Buccaneers Starting Quarterback In 2023?
Over the past three years, the Buccaneers have been Super Bowl contenders with Brady under center. Now the team is entering a rebuilding stage. Therefore, some believe Trask will earn the job as Tampa Bay wants to see what they have in the former second-round pick. However, the Buccaneers will let the two quarterback compete for the starting role next year.
Barring something unforeseen, fantasy players don’t care who wins the starting job next year except for how it impacts the rest of the team. Many fantasy players might be scared to draft Tampa Bay skill position players because of the massive downgrade at quarterback. However, should they be?
What Does The Quarterback Competition Mean For Fantasy Players?
Last year many were afraid or refused to draft DK Metcalf or Tyler Lockett. The Seattle Seahawks traded away Russell Wilson in the offseason and made Geno Smith the starter for the 2022 season.
Yet, Metcalf and Lockett averaged over 10.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game last season, ending the year as top-20 wide receivers. Hopefully, fantasy players won't make the same mistake this year with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Fantasy players should feel confident drafting both star wide receivers and Rachaad White next year. The former Sun Devil running back was productive as a rookie despite playing under 40% of the snaps. He was 11th among running backs in receptions (50) and 12th in targets (58). Furthermore, White was second in catch rate (86.2%).
Ideally, Mayfield is the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers all next season. However, that is unlikely, as the team will want to see Trask on the field at some point. Regardless, Godwin, Evans, and White will be valuable fantasy players in 2023.
