Anthony Volpe Batting Ninth In MLB Debut
2 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe is starting at shortstop and is batting ninth in his major-league debut on Opening Day on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants and right-hander Logan Webb. Putting Volpe in the nine-hole will take some pressure off the young shortstop, but it will also keep his fantasy ceiling low. DJ LeMahieu is at second base and is hitting leadoff for the Bronx Bombers. The 21-year-old Volpe earned the starting gig this spring by hitting .302 (16-for-53) with six doubles, a triple, three home runs, five RBI, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases in 18 Grapefruit League contests. Depending on how he fares offensively, Volpe could work his way up the Yankees lineup in time.
