Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Joe Mantiply (shoulder) will begin the 2023 regular season on the injured list. Tests on Mantiply's shoulder came back clean, though, so manager Torey Lovullo thinks it's possible the reliever will be able to return when he's eligible to come off the IL. With Mantiply out to start the season, hard-throwing reliever Carlos Vargas will make the Opening Day roster in the bullpen. Vargas, who can routinely touch triple digits with his fastball, was acquired in an offseason trade with the Cleveland Guardians. He has only thrown 34 1/3 innings at full-season levels in the minors, but he gave up just three runs in 10 1/3 innings with four walks and 13 strikeouts this spring.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
