Anthony Volpe Continues To Make Case For Opening Day
2 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe continued to make a case for an Opening Day roster spot on Friday versus the Minnesota Twins. Leading off, the 21-year-old went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run off Pablo Lopez. Volpe has been competing with fellow shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza, but Peraza has struggled mightily this spring. Peraza is on the 40-man roster and fared well towards the end of last season, but Volpe may be forcing the Yankees hand at this point. For the spring, the New Jersey native has hit .277 with three homers, five RBI and five stolen bases. Volpe is looking to become the first rookie in a Yankees Opening Day contest since Aaron Judge. If Volpe accomplishes that, he will be just the sixth rookie since 1951 in franchise history to accomplish such a feat. The talented shortstop should already be rostered in dynasty leagues and managers in redraft leagues are likely to see his ADP rise.
