Brett Baty Survives Another Round Of Cuts
2 years agoNew York Mets third baseman Brett Baty survived another round of cuts on Wednesday and will remain in camp with the team. The Mets demoted top prospect, Francisco Alvarez, but Baty's strong spring has made the team strongly consider him entering Opening Day. The 23-year-old has been white-hot this spring with a .342 batting average to go along with one homer, seven runs, five RBI and a pair of stolen bases. With projected third baseman Eduardo Escobar starting to get reps in the outfield, there seems to be a true chance that he could switch to a utility role with Baty manning the hot corner. Baty is already on the 40-man roster and that could work in his favor when it comes down to final cuts. With an ability to hit for both contact and power, Baty could be a valuable late-round piece in upcoming redraft drafts. In dynasty leagues, Baty should already be rostered. Managers should continue to monitor his status with Opening Day approaching and any indication that he will make the team will surely rise his ADP.
