Cristian Javier Strikes Out Four In Monday's Win
2 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier looked strong in his World Baseball Classic debut for Team Dominican Republic Monday, pitching four scoreless innings in a 6-1 win over Team Nicaragua. Javier struck out four while allowing two hits and a walk. The 25-year-old took another successful step forward in his young career in 2022, going 11-9 with a 2.54 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate in 148 2/3 innings pitched. The Astros signed Javier to a five-year, $64 million contract extension this off-season, so it is clear that they expect him to play a key part in their rotation. Javier could prove to be a top fantasy pitching option if he can maintain his high strikeout rate while also taking on another innings jump.
