The Chicago Bears had been rumored to be shopping the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft as they believe Justin Fields is the QB of the future. At last, they dealt the pick to the Carolina Panthers this past Friday, and with part of the package to move up from No. 9 to No. 1, Carolina sent wide receiver DJ Moore to Chicago.
Moore has three seasons of at least 1,100 yards on his resume during his five-year career in Carolina and is fully expected to be the No. 1 wideout for his new NFC North team.
Why did the Bears trade for Moore and is he a good fit for them? Let's dive in.

Why Did The Bears Trade For DJ Moore?
Chicago believes in Fields, so trading away the No.1 overall pick for a massive haul of picks and a wide receiver with upside makes sense. Chicago got Moore, the No. 9 pick, and No. 61 pick in the upcoming draft, and also walked away with a 2024 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick.
Moore is arguably worth a first-round pick, so grabbing an established wideout who turns just 26 before the draft is a savvy move by general manager Ryan Poles and the Bears' front office.
In 2022, we saw A.J. Brown and Tyreek Hill elevate their quarterbacks on new teams, so Chicago is trying to do the same with this move.
DJ Moore 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
While the jury is still out on Fields as a passer, adding Moore to the wide receiver room can only help his chances of becoming a high-upside gunslinger. If Fields does take the next step from inside the pocket, Moore should have a chance at posting another 1,000-yard season.
However, there's also a chance the Bears continue to be one of the most run-heavy attacks in the NFL, so there might not be a ton of volume to go around. Either way, Moore can get it done with efficiency and scoring opportunities.
In Moore's young career, he has had seven different starting quarterbacks -- Cam Newton, Kyle Allen, Taylor Heinicke, Will Grier, Teddy Bridgewater, PJ Walker, and Sam Darnold. Even so, he's been able to produce solid WR2 seasons. Even if Fields becomes just an average passer, Moore should get back to fantasy success after a down season in 2022. With plenty of draft capital and cap space to fix glaring weaknesses in the Bears' offensive line, we could see this young offense dramatically improve in 2023.
