Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph has been with the organization for five seasons after being selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. However, he is set to be a free agent this offseason, so a change of scenery could be in order.
Fellow quarterback Mitch Trubisky could be a cut candidate, so his status could have an effect on Rudolph's. Ultimately, Rudolph is far from a starting quarterback in the league, but the Steelers might want to bring him back since he has a ton of familiarity with the organization.
How has Rudolph performed in his five-year career and will the Steelers re-sign him this offseason? Let's dive in.

Mason Rudolph Career Review
In 17 NFL starts over five seasons, Rudolph has posted a 9-7-1 record. He's completed 236 of 384 (61.5 percent) of his passes for 2,366 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His performances have been nothing special, but he has kept the team afloat when called upon. He's not considered a serious candidate to be a starter anywhere, but he's proven to be a decent backup.
However, he was demoted to the third-string quarterback chair after the Steelers signed Trubisky and selected Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh has often carried three quarterbacks on its roster, but if Trubisky is on the team next season, they might opt to let Rudolph walk and draft a quarterback on the third day of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Will The Steelers Re-Sign Mason Rudolph?
Rudolph didn't take a single snap for the Steelers all long season. Despite that, the 27-year-old hasn't ruled out returning to the organization in 2023. The Steelers have Pickett as their starter with Trubisky as the primary backup. However, the Steelers could cut or trade Trubisky and save $8 million this offseason. If that happens, Rudolph returning to Pittsburgh would be more likely than him heading elsewhere. Regardless, Rudolph is going to be a backup wherever he goes, so he won't have much fantasy value.
It's worth noting Rudolph has also been linked to the 49ers as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the signal-caller is rumored to be on the their radar. However, even if Rudolph starts a few games in San Francisco, Trey Lance (ankle) or Brock Purdy (elbow) will reclaim the role once healthy.
Ultimately, there isn't much clarity on the situation, so we'll have to watch it unfold before providing more analysis.
