2 years agoOne of the surprising stories in NASCAR on Saturday was the qualifying effort by Ty Gibbs. The young Joe Gibbs Racing driver was the fastest among the Toyotas and 4th-fastest overall, giving him the best starting position of his Cup Series career. Ty has never made a Cup Series start here at Las Vegas, but he has three starts here in the Xfinity Series, including last year's victory in the first race at this track. Gibbs ranked 13th-fastest in ten-lap average during practice on Saturday. He will need a little bit more speed than that to compete for a top 10 result in Sunday's race.--Jordan McAbee
