The Atlanta Falcons had an up-and-down 2022 season. After losing their first two games of the year, the Falcons won three of their next four games. More importantly, two of those wins came over playoff teams.
Atlanta defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, 27-23. Furthermore, the Falcons won 28-14 in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, the team lost four of their final six games to end the year.
After ending the year with a 7-10 record, the Falcons will have the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

What Are The Atlanta Falcons Biggest Needs On Offense?
Some believe the Falcons will use their first-round pick on a quarterback. However, Desmond Ridder showed the team enough in his four starts as a rookie to warrant the starting job in 2023. Unless Atlanta trades for Lamar Jackson, fans should expect Ridder to start next year.
However, the Falcons need more weapons for the former Cincinnati Bearcat to have a chance in the NFL. Drake London had a solid rookie season. Yet, the rest of the receiving core was disappointing. Furthermore, Olamide Zaccheaus and Damiere Byrd are free agents this offseason.
While Atlanta likely won’t use their first-round pick on a wide receiver, the Falcons should draft one in the second round. One potential target is North Carolina’s Josh Downs. The former Tar Heel totaled 195 receptions for 2,364 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns over his last two years. More importantly, Downs made several impressive plays downfield.
What Are The Atlanta Falcons Biggest Needs On Defense?
The Falcons had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last year. Part of their problem was a lack of pressure on the quarterback. Grady Jarrett led the team with six sacks last season. Furthermore, he was the only player on the team with more than four sacks. While Atlanta used a pair of Day 2 picks on edge rushers last year, that shouldn’t stop them from using a first-round selection on the position this year.
One potential target is Tyree Wilson. The Texas Tech star has as much upside as any edge rusher in this year’s draft class. His size and length will make NFL teams drool.
