The Carolina Panthers had a season of two halves in 2022. They lost five of their first six games, with their only win coming over the New Orleans Saints.
However, the team rebounded under interim head coach Steve Wilks. Carolina won four of its final six games to end the regular season. Despite their 7-10 record, the Panthers missed the playoffs by one game.
After ending the 2022 season with a 7-10 record, Carolina will have the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL.

What Are The Carolina Panthers Biggest Needs On Offense?
While Sam Darnold had a 4-2 record as the starter this season, the Panthers will be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason. They could sign a veteran like Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency. However, many believe Carolina will use their first-round pick on a quarterback.
One potential draft target is Anthony Richardson. The former Gator had over 2,500 passing yards and 17 touchdowns last season. Furthermore, he was a force in the running game. Richardson had 654 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 2022. More importantly, he can consistently make game-changing plays.
Many believe Richardson shouldn’t start right away as a rookie. If the Panthers feel similarly, they could sign a bridge-gap veteran in free agency. Richardson could sit most of his rookie season and learn from the sidelines.
Therefore, don’t be surprised if the Panthers sign Carson Wentz this offseason. The Washington Commanders will release the veteran quarterback next month. Meanwhile, new head coach Frank Reich worked with Wentz in Indianapolis and Philadelphia.
What Are The Carolina Panthers Biggest Needs On Defense?
Last year the Panthers had a solid defense. They have several young up-and-coming players, including Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, and Jeremy Chinn. However, the team hasn’t had an elite force at linebacker since Luke Kuechly retired.
Furthermore, Cory Littleton is a free agent this offseason. Meanwhile, Shaq Thompson and Frankie Luvu are heading into the final year of their contracts. One potential draft target is Jack Campbell.
The Iowa star linebacker is a projected late first-round or early second-round pick. Campbell would be a slam-dunk selection if he is still available when the Panthers pick in the second round. His ability to make plays on all three downs is outstanding.
